
Born March 17, 1922, in Tumbling Run, Tamaqua, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Gertrude W. Brockhoff Guers. She had graduated from Blythe Township High School in 1939 and from Penn State University with a degree in Mathematics, where she had studied principles of engineering drawing and dimensioning for air craft drafting course at Penn State University. As she pursued her work career in Philadelphia, she continued with her education, graduating from Drexel University as an Electrical Engineer. She was a vital part of the founding of the Society of Women Engineers and served as an officer and committee person. She was employed by General Electric and Leeds and Northrup Company in Philadelphia. Gertrude was a dynamic person and a pioneer for women in the field of engineering.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in the death by her beloved husband, Harold J. Moyer on March 21, 1988; brothers James R., husband to Viola and Agnes, Howard J., husband to Dorothy, sisters Elsie J. Bensinger, wife to Daniel, Frances L. Guers Sievering, wife to Howard, and nephew Charles D. Guers.
Surviving are her sister and best friend, Mary E. Guers Lillie wife of Robert J. of Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, PA., brothers Daniel W. Guers, wife Jeanne Marie of Pottsville, PA and William R. Guers, wife Grace Louise of New Philadelphia, PA. Step daughter Ann Moyer Dunstan Hendricks, husband LaVar, Yakima, WA, step grandson Micha, wife Dollie, 4 step great-grandchildren of Yakima, WA and 18 beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Gertrude will always be remembered for her smile, positive thought for everyone in her life that she touched, her energy, as she kept busy working on her projects, generosity, and independence in all aspects of her life. In her 92 years, she was a person that had many roles in her life, as she was a daughter, sister, electrical engineer, aunt, wife, god-mother, step mother, step grand-mother, step great-grandmother, gardener, pinochle player, friend, and a person that was loved by all who were fortunate to know her.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11 A.M. in Zerr Chapel at Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, PA. . Private interment will be made in Huff’s Union Church Cemetery, Alburtis, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions for a living memorial in her name to Cornwall Manor, PO Box 125, Cornwall, PA 17016.
