I’m so very sorry to hear of Mr. Donley’s passing!  Awww Mr. Donley my 9th grade Biology teacher….loved that class! He always called me by my last name… I smile when I think of him saying with his funny stern way… SHADE…. The picture completely captures my memory… God bless you all!!

Dear Donley family,

I am sorry to hear of Hal’s passing. I worked with Hal when he was a tipstaff for the Lebanon County Court of Common Pleas. One thing that stood out to me was an interaction I had with Hal regarding his role as football coach at Lebanon High. I had been told by someone that Hal had been coach when a talented football player (a player whose name I am sure you know—and a story you likely know) had been injured (broken leg) through no fault of Hal’s at a practice. The player’s father became angry and eventually the player ended up playing football for a different school district outside Lebanon County. What struck me was Hal’s response to my questions about the event. Hal never spoke ill of the player or his father to me. He related the story to me without an ounce of animosity. Grace under fire is a rare thing. Hal exhibited to me traits that are  essential in leaders: humility and transparency. He could well have complained about the player and his father He didn’t. Hal could have complained about the unfair response to him from many people—he didn’t.  I learned something  that day. I learned that Hal had character. I learned that he refused to allow that event to define him. I believe that he was able to influence many people through his work as a teacher, coach, etc. I am thankful that I knew Hal. Even more, I am thankful that he taught me something about being a leader that day. 

Please know that I will be praying for you, Hal’s family, as you grieve his passing.

Offering sincere sympathy to the Donley Family at this time of loss.  Harold F. was a devoted family man, solid educator, and dedicated coach.  I always enjoyed our conversations over the years.   This is a time of sorrow for his family and friends, but also a time to give thanks for a long life well lived.

Deepest condolences to the Donley family on this tremendous loss of Hal.
As I wrote on Facebook earlier this week I have great memories of interactions with Hal during my midget baseball days. He was also my boss for the two summers I spent working as a playground director for the City of Lebanon. He could  be stern but always supported you if he thought you were doing your best. The first playground,  Washy, now East End , did not have a lot of equipment for the kids to play with, so Hal made his thoughts known, saying during a department meeting that, "we need to get Patrick some help." I didn't even get a lot more help, but I always appreciated Hal having my back.
The following summer, I worked at a different, busier playground that was better stocked than the one from the previous year. I also had a fellow director to help me out, which was good because we had a lot of kids and they weren't always well-behaved.
Hal knew this, and took note of it when he made his weekly rounds. One particular Friday, when the natives were particularly restless Hal  came by, quickly evaluated the situation and said to me, "Patrick, they're animals down here."
Many people would have probably left immediately but not Hal. He stayed and help calm the kids down, with his authoritative demeanor and by playing ping pong with one of the kids. I don't know who was having more fun, the kid or Hal.
Obviously it's sad that he's gone, but whenever I've thought of him this week or read stories about him from others, I never failed to smile.
It's long overdue, Hal, but thanks for everything.

To the Donley family ,  I'm so sorry for the loss of your father I never had him as a teacher but he always used to call me Hainley's little sister  he always used to like my mom's fried bologna sandwich she would take too my brothers at football practice in the summer may God be with you all my prayers and thoughts and condolences are with you all 🙏🙏🙏 class of 1986

Mr. Donley was a great Biology Teacher!   Will never forget seeing him down by the Tulpy creek when trout season would begin! RIP! Class of 1997.

My deepest condolences to his family. He was an Awesome Teacher and will be missed by all. So sorry for your loss.
