With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doug Haverland (Leduc, Alberta), who passed away with his family by his side on June 29, 2022 at the age of 57. Doug will forever be remembered by his loving compassionate big heart, warm smile, hardworking soul and smart knowledge. Doug was born August 13, 1964 in Trenton, Ontario.
Doug developed a love for civil earthworks construction at a young age, working his way up to Superintendent at an early age. He will easily be remembered for his sharing of knowledge with others and mentoring of fellow coworkers. In 2015, Doug opened his own company “Haverland Contracting”, contracting himself to others and undertaking and completing his own construction projects such as building road for subdivisions. Doug’s love for his job showed in his quality of work and passion for the job.
When Doug wasn’t working, his time was spent with his wife, traveling on many trips to Las Vegas, warm vacations and cruising with his family. He had a love for his challenger car which took him on many road trips with his wife. He also had a love for fishing.
Doug’s life was cut short when he immediately became ill 2½ years ago. His diagnosis of terminal illness showed others how to live their life to the fullest and to cherish every moment we have together. Doug always demonstrated strength and compassion to others. Right up to the very last minute of Doug’s life he was still putting others first before his needs. His smile and strength will forever be lived on through everyone who got the privilege of meeting him.
He is survived by: his wife Charlene; sons, Christopher, Matthew, Jeffrey and Blair; his mother, Bonnie Haverland; his mother-in-law, Bev Hoffman; his sister, Nicki and brothers in law Darcy and Casey, aunts, uncles, niece and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, Dave Haverland, his brother, Dean Haverland and his father-in-law, Fred Hoffman.
Upon the request of Doug, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date for family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doug’s name to the Children’s Stollery Hospital at U of A.
