

Cecil Mayhew, 69, passed away on August 26, 2025, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Born on July 4, 1956, in Birmingham, Alabama, Cecil lived a life marked by dedication to his work, love for his family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. During his professional career, Cecil was a dedicated employee at Hardy Corporation and later devoted many years to Apollo Vending, the family business. His commitment to his work reflected his strong sense of responsibility and pride in contributing to something meaningful.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delesia Mayhew; his father, William "Bill" Mayhew; and his mother, Peggy J. Mayhew. Though their absence was deeply felt throughout his later years, Cecil continued to find strength and purpose through the enduring bonds he shared with those around him.
Cecil is survived by his children: Samuel Mayhew, Melissa Mayhew, Celia Hodnett, Candice Willis, and Kayce Brown. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Hannah Mayhew, Catie Priddy, Carlie Priddy, Jayden Chapman, Carsyn Chapman, and Purser Brown. He is also survived by his brother, Steve Mayhew (Lisa), niece Jennifer Mayhew, and nephew Brent Mayhew. Among those who held a special place in Cecil’s heart was his lifelong friend Jim Watkins. The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to David—his friend and caregiver—for the unwavering dedication and compassion he showed during Cecil’s final chapter. Outside of work and family life, Cecil found joy in playing golf and strumming the guitar—pastimes that brought him peace and connection throughout the years.
May Cecil’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived. The family will welcome visitors to Kilgroe Funeral Home, 1750 Ashville Road, Leeds, Alabama on September 2, 2025, at 10:00 with the service beginning at 11:00. Burial to follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, Alabama.
