Lee, I love you and miss you so much. I know you are not hurting any more, and for that I am grateful. I miss talking to you, especially after Alabama games and Dale Jr. on Nascar.

I have known Charles Lee since 1976 when he was all of ten year old. I will never forget the first time that I saw him. It was when I was painting the front of our new house on Goldmar Drive. I was up on a very tall stepladder at the time when He walked over from across the street.
 
We'd only been living there a relatively short time and he was the first our our new neighbors that we'd met. He was wearing a ball cap with a professional ball teams logo on the front. I commented about his very cool baseball hat and he said, yep and I play for New York Yankees too. I then asked him you play for the Little League Yankees don't you? He replied no, I play for the real New York Yankees. I of course humored the young lad and that first meeting has stuck with me all these years later.

Lee was a fine young man and I count myself lucky to have known him. I have many memories, accumulated from the time
spent with him and his family as he grew
to manhood. 

I still miss him and even though he has been gone since last October, I still find myself thinking that I need to tell Lee about something the next time I see him. Then reality will set in and I'll remember that Lee is gone but he most assuredly will never be forgotten. Lee was a memorable young man, with a heart as big as the outdoors that he loved so much.

Dearest Betty,

My heart is so heavy with grief for the loss of your son Lee. I have some wonderful memories of growing up with Lee and Trey on Goldmar Drive and out here in the sticks of Moody.  Lee loved life here in the woods and every great thing that country living encompasses. He loved nature and animals immensely and always  surrounded himself with them.  

He also loved history and sharing his wealth of knowledge with the world around him.  I always admired his intelligence and passion for life.  I feel blessed to have known Lee and his amazing mother Betty Terrell who was like an Aunt to me growing up.  I will miss Lee and the opportunity to learn and share world conversations about current events and how history continues to repeat itself.  

I am at peace with his passing knowing he Loved God and is in his loving arms now.  I mourn for his dear Mother who loved him more than life itself.  May God continue to comfort and console her and the entire Terrell family.   I know and trust Our Savior has great plans to look after his children and this is where I derive my peace of mind that Betty will be looked after from above.

You will be dearly missed Lee and when I think of you I will smile and enjoy nature in your loving memory.

Dearest Betty,

Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories to forever hold in your heart. 

It seems like just yesterday that I would watch as Little Lee came walking down the path from your house to mine. This was true on Goldmar Drive (as well) when he would make a b-line across the street and come marching in the house. He was always interested in scaring me with whatever new discoveries, bugs, spiders,or creatures he had come across and loved to catch me off guard. Just like his mom, he thought I made a good target. This was his way of teasing me and grabbing my attention. I can still see that little boy's face with long blond bangs hanging down in his eyes and that mischievous smile of his. I will never forget the day Lee and Trey came home with those nasty big fat bull frogs with long green legs they found in the creek. Those frogs were bigger than their hands. They couldn't wait to come home and waive them in our faces! Nor, could they stop laughing.

Charles Lee always loved nature and as a child loved being outdoors. The move to Moody in 1980 definitely agreed with him. How many young boys live in a log cabin in the woods, and have more than one fishing pond within walking distance? Lee took to this like a duck takes to water. He also took Trey under his wing and off the two of them would go with tackle boxes and fishing poles in hand. Lee became quite a good fisherman as a young boy and his favorite playground (of course) was the Gilley's fish pond.

I miss the countless hours you and I would spend sewing or working on arts and crafts while Lee, Trey, and Lisa were living out their childhoods. Those were days never to be forgotten! And from there, as they all grew up and moved away from mom, the kids (all three of them) were always topics of conversation through the good, the not so good, the good times, and the bad. The memory of Lee will always be in our hearts, and those conversations I'm sure will continue.

I know how much you loved Charles Lee, and how much he loved you!! You were his rock and sometimes his salvation. You were always there for him, supporting him, and encouraging him. He was your only child. You were his guiding light!!

"Death is nothing at all. Lee has only slipped away into the next room. Call him by his old familiar name. Speak to him in the easy way you always did. Put no difference into your tone. Let his name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Whatever you were to each other. That you still are."

One Christmas I made some graham cracker candy,and Aunt Betty and Lee came. Lee said this stuff is better than "crack"(he was kidding with me). I told the my friend that gave me the recipe what Lee had called it. So now it is called crack candy. Mark and I will miss Lee very much! We love you Aunt Betty!
