Gary George Weissgerber left his tired and weak body behind and has entered heaven, where he now has a glorified body and sound mind. He has struggled with poor health in recent months and has been restricted from participating in many activities he once enjoyed.
Memories of Gary always include his boisterous and unrestrained laughter. Cars, cars, and more cars. Gary was an avid motor head and loved fast cars and bad dad jokes. He and his brother Gene both had hot cars in their younger years and never backed down from a chance to race and show off. Gary taught his sons and his grandchildren how to “drive” and ensured they knew how to beat the other guy at the stoplight. He never tired of attempting to improve his wife’s driving techniques anytime he was forced to be the passenger.
We’re not all blessed to have a lifetime friend; however, Jim Bond and Gary met when they were 3 years old and remained true friends throughout their life. They grew up together, hung together through High School and supported each other through all the highs and lows in this earthly life. Gary joined the Air Force in Oct of 1965 and was stationed in Misawa, Japan as an Intercept Officer with the Security Service where he worked in signals intelligence. His time there was always remembered fondly and he was commended for his actions during the capture of the USS Pueblo by North Korea.
After his return stateside, Gary married and had two sons, Matthew Todd and John Bernerd. As the boys grew, they were introduced to spaghetti westerns, peanuts in the shell and strange food dunking habits. Gary was a boy scout leader when his sons were younger and they enjoyed campouts and outdoor activities together.
Eventually, Gary would meet and marry his partner of 34 years Marilyn (Womack) Weissgerber who would not only provide Gary with an audience for his horrible jokes, but who also introduced him to his savior Jesus Christ to which the whole family is grateful for.
Woodworking and home improvement projects were a hobby of Gary’s and over the years he crafted plexiglass guinea pig enclosures, scout kitchen boxes, a 40th birthday wooden casket (which made the party rounds for years!!!), finished basements and large decks. He was an airplane inspector for McDonnel Douglas in St Louis, MO. He completed his college degree in Computer Programming, while working full time and raising a family. Most of his adult life, he worked as a computer programmer/analyst. He also built his own computers. Gary worked hard and was very loyal, both to employers and family. He had a great work ethic and passed that on to his sons.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Womack) Weissgerber - Moody, AL, sons Matt Weissgerber and wife Angela (Jordan) Weissgerber – Talladega, AL and John Weissgerber and wife Alicia (Hodkin) Weissgerber – Canton, GA. Grandchildren, Riley and Charlee Weissgerber, Ashlynn Phelps and husband Tyler and great grandchild Aidy – Wilsonville, AL, Noah Weissgerber and wife Cayman (Goodwine) – Spanish Fort, AL, and Ella Snyder and husband Calvin – Little Rock, AK.
