He worked at Compass Bank for more than 30 years and was a member at New Life Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Peggy Duncan Hughes; son, James K. Hughes Jr. (Karen); daughter, Tamatha Hughes Harrell (Wesley); grandchildren, Christian Hughes, Callie Hughes, Emily Rhodes, James David Rhodes, Andrea Harrell, special friends, Boyd Stripling and Larry Roden.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for their special care Jami and Kayla; Heart to Heart Service, Austin Dycus and a thank you Emilye Boswell and Shianne Parsons for their care as well. Funeral services will be Wednesday Sept.17, 2025 at New Life Baptist Church in Odenville at 2 pm. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 until 2 pm with burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.
