Jerry Philip Tiede, age 65 resident of Moody, Alabama, passed quietly in his homeTuesday April 17,2012 , after a 9 month-long hard fought battle with lung/bone cancer. Born November 2, 1946 in Batavia, New York. He was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Philip Tiede. Loving and devoted husband of Pamela Morris Tiede for nearly 38 years.
After leaving the farm in 1964 he served in the USAFSS for 8 years. He was based in Europe for a number of years, served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and completed his service at the NSA. He made his home in Clarksville. A longtime resident - 25 years. He was an accomplished mechanic, fabricator, craftsman and predominantly made his living setting modular homes. His lifelong love of Massey Harris tractors continued to be a hobby of his. Designing and building race cars, engines and race boats over the years solidified his reputation as an innovator in all facets of his life. This innovative spirit was sought out by many people throughout his life creating lasting friendships which he treasured. He moved to Alabama in 2004 where he enjoyed the milder climate, simpler days and being a mentor to his two grandsons.
The void left by Jerry's passing will leave many of us asking "What would Jerry do?" We will miss you.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter and son-in-law Jennifer & Michael Smith of Birmingham, Alabama, sons and daughters-in-law Christian & Nichole Tiede of Reisterstown, Maryland, Jason & Jenny Tiede of Woodbine, Maryland, grandsons Liam & Keegin, granddaughters Haley, Lilia and Ella, brothers Donald P. Tiede of East Bethany, N.Y and Gene A. Tiede of Pavillion, N.Y.
The family will receive friends at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville on Tuesday April 24,2012 from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday April 25,2012 at 9:45 am. Interment following at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills.
