John T. Rodgers of Leeds passed away Sunday, February 27 after a short illness. “J.T”, as he was affectionately known, was a true Southern gentleman who dearly loved his family and friends. He was a hero to his daughter Barbara but was a humble person who was kind to everyone. He was generous in heart, mind, and spirit, and was known for his enjoyment of the outdoors, particularly his garden. His sweet disposition and sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met and we are all better for having known him.
J.T. was a proud member of the U. S. Air Force and retired as a SMSGT after defending our country bravely in three wars: WW II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam war. He also retired from the U.S Post Office.
J. T. was preceded in death by his beloved wife Neva Elaine Rodgers and his daughter Carol Ann Gillespie. He is survived by his loving daughter Barbara, his grandson Buddy, cousins including Albert & Jackie Franks, Al, Kelly, & Reis Franks as well as a host of close friends, including Jack Courson, Ray Garrett, Pete Webb, and “Buttercup” DeShazo.
Visitation will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home Wednesday, March 2nd, from 12-2 with graveside services following at Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds directing.
