

Lila Jeanette Baswell Houts (Jeanette), born 1944, passed away on January 1, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Gwen Baswell. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years Edward Eugene Houts, Jr.; daughter, Vicki Jean Houts Layne (Peter); grandsons Christopher Layne and Ethan Layne of Chattanooga, Tennessee; son, Glenn Edward Houts (Kelli); grandson, Landon Manly Houts and granddaughter, Malory Jamison Houts of Odenville, Alabama; brother and sister-in-law Danny and Rhonda Houts, also of Odenville, Alabama.
She was born in St. Clair County, lived and grew up in Irondale, Alabama, attending Irondale Jr. High and Shades Valley High School. She graduated from Jacksonville State College with a B. S. Degree in Secondary Education/Business and English. She also earned a Paralegal Degree from Cumberland School of Law/Samford University. She was a teacher in the St. Clair County School System teaching business subjects and English, and she worked in the Law Department for the City of Birmingham, AL.
She was an alumni of the Marching Southerners of Jacksonville State College/University, alumna of The Marching Ballerinas and enjoyed attending alumni events. She was a participant in the Presidential Inaugural Parade of Lyndon B. Johnson in Washington D.C. in 1965 along with other Marching Southerners representing the State of Alabama.
She was a current member of Odenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She participated in Girl Scouts, PTA/PTO, AEA, and other organizations. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and her former students.
Visitation will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, Alabama from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, January 7, 2022. Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Forest Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Odenville Presbyterian Church, P.O.
