Norman Dale McCulley

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, at 4 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds with burial following in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Leeds. The body will lie-in-state and the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, R. C. McCulley, and his mother Lula Gaye Posey, McCulley, both of Leeds.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Ayres McCulley; two daughters, Teresa McCulley Meissner (Dan) of Tuscaloosa, Cheryl McCulley Fowler of Birmingham; one son, Brantley McCulley (Dawn) of Huntsville; one sister, Reba McCulley of Leeds; one brother, Robert N. McCulley (Suzanne) of Trussville; eight grandchildren, Morgan Fowler, Peyton Fowler, Hayden Fowler, Tara Simpson, Ivy McCulley, Mallory Meissner, Matt Meissner (Brooke) and Leigh Anne Meissner Allen (Thomas); four great-grandchildren, Mason Roy, Tori Allen, MacKenzie Meissner and Brylee Meissner; two nephews, two great-nieces, his “other brother” Rick Hood, and other relatives.

Dale grew up in Leeds, graduated from Leeds High School, and worked most of his life in the foundry industry. His family lived in Tuscaloosa for many years while he worked 17 years at Central Foundry Company. He joined Southern Precision Sands in Birmingham in 1977 where he worked as superintendent of sand operations, manager of sand plant operations and manager of sales. He was promoted to director in 2000 and retired in 2003. Following retirement he remained active with the company on a consulting basis introducing advanced technology to improve production efficiency.

Affectionately known as “Papaw” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dale was a kind and loving individual who place the highest priority on relationships with family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mikal McCulley, Justin McCulley, Ben McLaughlin, Ted McLaughlin, Matt Meissner and Scott Posey.

Honorary pallbearers include the 1954 graduating class of Leeds High School, current and former employees of Southern Precision Sands and the physicians and staff of Brookwood Medical & Cancer Center.
