
Cox, Shirley “Toby” Crooks, 79, of Pell City, passed away September 4, 2017. Shirley grew up in Ensley and graduated from Ensley High School in 1957. She was employed by JC Penney for over 20 years working in the business office of the Ensley and Five Points West stores. In later years, she worked for Stonewall Insurance and Waste Management. She was an active member of the Salvation Army, serving in the Ensley, Citadel and Bessemer Corps. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jewel and Bob Crooks, and her sister Edna Merle Trenor. She is survived by her husband, Ray Cox; children Randy (Pam) Donaldson, Ranita Hanes, Tim (Nikki) Cox, Tom (Cindy) Cox and Carrie (David) Lewis; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Ann (Paul) Fergeson, Jackie (Butch) Rowell and brother Butch (Sandi) Crooks.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds. The family will receive guests from 11:30am until 1:00pm with the service following at 1:00pm. Rev. Jimmy Bradford will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army in honor of Mrs. Cox.
