Susie Faye Horsley

In her thirties Susie began college and graduated from USM-Hattiesburg and later received a graduate degree from Jacksonville State University. She taught for 25 years at Odenville Elementary School in St. Clair County. She was an active member of AEA and NEA. She was a charter member of the Delta Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an organization for women educators. After retiring she joined the Women’s Literary Club in Leeds and further supported her love of reading as a Friend of the Leeds Library. She enjoyed learning and loved needlework, crafts and painting. She was a member of Huffman Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Adult activities and choir. She was a very giving and gentle person whose life truly lived out her faith in God. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manley and Mary Alice Taylor (Jones), sister, Nelda Carmichael, brothers, Billy Joe Taylor, John R. Taylor and Buel Taylor.

She is survived by her daughters, Joanne Brady and Sharon Peoples of Leeds, brother, James M. Taylor (Kathy) of Sylacauga, grandchildren, Ginger Brady of Moody, Lee Brady (Mimi) of Charlotte, N. C., Mary Alicen Phillips of Leeds, and great-grandchildren, Eli Brady and Dezerae Dillard.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the nurses and therapists of Gentiva Home Health of Pell City, Home Options of Moody and Drs. Olson, OuTim, Ennis, LaPedes and Pava of Trinity Medical Center along with the many nurses who cared for her during her extended hospitalization.

A Celebration of Life for Susie Horsley will be Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 3 PM at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Leeds with Reverend Larry Smith and Reverend Billy Abrams Officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 PM until 3 PM at Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

In Lieu of Flowers the family requests that donations be made to Huffman Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry or the Leeds Public Library.
