

Virgil Lankford, age 75, of Leeds, Alabama passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Virgil was born in Hillsborough, Fl on January 14, 1949. Virgil Retired from the US Army after a 20 year career in field artillery and recruiting that included 2 tours in Vietnam as a cannon and missile Senior Sergeant. His awards and decorations includes the The Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Purple Heart, The Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, 5 Overseas Service Ribbons, The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, The Combat Infantry Badge and The Vietnam Ranger Badge.
Virgil was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leeds and was preceded in death by his parents; Benjamin and Bertie Lankford and his brothers Daniel and James Lankford.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Spruill Lankford; Son, Lee Washburn (Cera), daughters; Meredith Washburn Wilkerson (Jason), Katherine Washburn Anderson (Eric), grandchildren, Alex Washburn, Jack Washburn, John Merritt Wilkerson, Samuel Wilkerson, Josiah Wilkerson, Maggie Wilkerson Silas Wilkerson Molly Wilkerson, Ella Anderson and Andy Anderson.
Memorial services will be Friday May 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Al.
