Larry Dean Thompson

Larry was born in Vandalia, IL on September 8, 1937, to Harry Thompson and Amelia Stimson.

Larry lived in Vernon Parish for the past 49 years and was of the Catholic faith. He served two tours with the Army in Vietnam and one in Korea and retired as an E-8. He received the following awards; Expert Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Combat Medal – with 60 devices, Bronze Star with three Oak Clusters, Armed Forces Medal – Korea, Vietnamese Gallantry – with Palm, Vietnamese Gallantry – with Silver Star, Arcom 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Arcom with V Device, Good Conduct Award – 5th Award. He was a member of American Legions Post # 387. Larry worked in Iraq as a contractor, he owned numerous business’s in the Leesville area, L&H Swifty Mart, Don’s Pawn and Toby’s Rest. He was an avid supporter of Pickering High School sports; he never missed a game and loved to cook for them. Larry loved to hunt and fish; he belonged to the Bull’s Eye Hunting Club.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife Hertha Mehl Thompson (Wife of 45 years),great granddaughter Hayden Marie Thompson, parents Harry Thompson and Amelia Stimson Thompson, six brothers and two sisters.

Larry is survived by his wife, Janis Thompson, of Leesville, LA, sons, Clinton Thompson, step-son, James Adam and wife, Wendy, of Many, LA, daughters, Peggy Vinson and husband, Robert (Peanut) of Leesville, step-daughter, Jill Jones Calhoun and husband, Theo, of Shreveport, LA, sisters, Norma Warner of Vandalia, IL and Ruby Bolyard, of Decatur, IL, eight grandchildren, Mandi Vinson – Furlong, husband, Joshua Furlong, of Leesville, LA, Kristen Vinson-Fisher, of Leesville, LA, Justin Thompson and wife, Jessica Thompson, of Leesville, LA, Austin Vinson and wife, Rachel Rupp-Vinson, of San Antonio, TX, Clay Thompson of Philadelphia, PA, Zachary Adams of Many, LA, Zander Adams of Many, LA, Samantha Gravel and husband, Steven Gravel, of Hornbeck, LA and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville, LA. Services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville. Bro. Andy Addison will be officiating. Services are under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville, LA.
