Uncle Buddy was a kind, gentle, and loving man.  We had tons of fun when he came over to share our birthdays, anniversarys or just Sunday afternoons.  We were able to stay connected with cards and phone calls and I was always laughing with his entertaining stories.  Thanks Uncle Buddy for the memories.  Aunt Emily and you will always have a special place in my heart.

It is with great sadness that we gather together to mourn the passing of Charles Munson; our dear, funny, good natured "Uncle Bud."  To some it might come as  somewhat of a surprise to know that Uncle Bud was an incredibly brave and heroic man as well.  But then he was also an extremely humble man. 
At a very young age, along with many other brave young men, he was called to duty during WWII and served with distinction among the "Airmen of the Allied Forces in the Mediterranean Theatre." That's back when there was not an Air Force, but an Army Air Corps.  In fact, Uncle Bud trained right here in Florida at the Buckingham Airfield. 
He flew in the last 35 missions of that war,  and in his memoirs of the final mission, wrote that he'd earned "the right to be sent home for a rest and reassignment in the good old U.S.A.!"  In fact, he'd earned so much more that than; Uncle Bud earned the respect and gratitude of not only the good old USA, but the rest of the world when he wrote that on April 26, 1945.  His Commander-in-Chief wrote that "No praise is high enough for you..." History confirms this to be true.
Uncle Bud came home after serving in the Navy as well, and went back to school and earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting at NYU in New York, and a Masters in Business Administration at Hofstra University on Long Island.  He accomplished this going at night and working at Fort Totten, a U.S. Army Installation in Queens, New York.  He excelled in his new career as a Certified Public Accountant.  
Charles Munson met and fell in love with Emily Ayres in the 1960s, and they were married in August of 1968.  They moved to Virginia when he took a position with the Department of Transportation, and worked there with distinction until he retired.  During their marriage, he took particular delight in making his wife feel like a queen.  They cruised often, traveled to Europe, and  continued vacationing over the years on Fort Myers Beach. 
When they visited Fairways III in Lehigh, they decided to take a condo there near family, and so began the wonderful years here in Florida where our entire family enjoyed spending birthdays, holidays, and any excuse for a celebration together.  
So while it is with much sadness that we will miss him, we are also here to celebrate his life today.  We take comfort knowing he has joined his wife, Emily, whom he has missed dearly, along with beloved family members we have lost in recent years.  And we will remember his sacrifices, his bravery, and his heroic service that surely made an important difference in the world.

Bud was at Fairways III Condos when we arrive in 2006.  He made us feel welcome.  We have many memories of time spent at the pool with him sharing life stories. He always kept us up-to-date on financial news, and loved to talk about his former jobs and military experiences. We also enjoyed "summer birthday parties at the clubhouse. He often brought us pea soup and shared his recipe with us. He was a good person and a friend; he will be missed and remembered.  May he rest in peace in the care of his Lord.

My Uncle Bud had a heart of gold, a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face.  He has been there for our family throughout the years whenever we needed anything or if we just wanted to sit and talk awhile.  I will always remember him saying when it was someone's Birthday, "Today is not your Birthday,  It is the Anniversary of your Birth".  He truly loved the years he spent in Lehigh Acres FL with his wife Emily and the years after her passing.  We have enjoyed all the Holidays and the parties we spent with him and I consider myself blessed to have known him. I miss you already dearest Uncle Bud  -
