

James was born in Columbus Ohio on July 10, 1938 to Girard and Mary Meier.
He graduated from St. Vincent De Paul High School in 1956 and shortly after he enlisted in the Unites States Navy. He served 20 years in the Navy and retired with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He also served 24 years in Civil Service at Miramar Naval Air Station and retired as the Director of Supply with a rank of GS13. In the Navy, he earned many commendations such as the Good Conduct Medal with five awards; National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device(1960), Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, Deep Freeze Medal with winter over Clasp, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross. In the Navy, James met his wife Virginia .They had two children Mary Louise and Patricia Anne. James was very active at St. John of the Cross Church for many years. He loved camping and fishing and spending time with his family.
James is survived by his two daughters Mary Louise Saldano and husband Richard of Alpine, CA and Patricia Ann Lopez and husband Edward of La Mesa, CA. He also has five grandchildren, Jessica Marie and her husband Anthony Magdaleno of Campo, CA, Anthony James Saldano of Alpine, CA, Raymond Gabriel Lopez of La Mesa, CA, Alicia Renee Lopez of La Mesa, CA, Ruben Michael Saldano of Alpine, CA; 2 great grandchildren Anthony Franks Magdaleno Jr. and Roen Tagger Magdaleno, two sisters Alice and husband Bufford Latham and Rose Clements and lots of nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years Virginia in 2012, four brothers, one sister and his parents Girard and Mary.
Visitation will be on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at Conrad’s Mortuary in Lemon Grove from 4-7 pm. The Funeral will be on Thursday August 14, 2014 at St. John of the Cross Church in Lemon Grove at 11:00 am.
