Julie Eugenio Utt
July 31, 1955 – April 2, 2014
Julie Eugenio Utt was born on the Naval Base in Subic Bay, Philippines on July 31, 1955. She was first of the five born to Johnny and Melicia Eugenio. With her father or whom herself, brothers and sister also called, “Duddy” being in the US Navy, their family was able to come to the States when Julie was at the age of five.
Attending school in the United States forced Julie to learn the English language and eventually fall out of practice with her native tongue, Tagalog. As the years went on, Julie enjoyed her time as a Morse Tiger. And as the saying goes, “Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger”. So those who were lucky may have even heard her cheer “Ugh, Ungaya, Morse got the power!” in her later years. Julie even came to marry a fellow Tiger, her high school sweetheart, Albert Rayos and was able to travel along side him as he was in the Air Force. While stationed in Landstuhl, Germany they gave birth to their first daughter Jalina Melisa on August 6, 1974 then traveled back to the Philippines, which then lead them out to a short stay in Vegas. Then while stationed in Panama City, Florida their second daughter Alana Leiya was born on July 22, 1981. Not too long after they moved out to New Mexico Julie and Albert divorced. Leaving Julie and her daughters geared up for their permanent move out to Sunny San Diego where her family was.
Playing the strong role of both mother and father to both her girls, Julie then went on to find a passion in Beauty School. She proudly got her cosmetology license and soon began to take control of her business as an independent hair stylist. She grew a clientele of her own which also became great amazing friends she truly loved and respected. And with that respect and trust she gave into a client’s demand of going on a blind date with her son, Daniel Utt, who became her husband of 25 years.
Through their marriage they enjoyed camping, theater, going to the movies and spending time with their grandson, Kyle. Kyle who was born in 1999 was also the year when Julie first found out she was Type 1 Diabetic. Learning to live with diabetes was a challenge but never did it get her down. There were numerous amounts of health issues Julie was faced with. But her fighter spirit always kept her on the up and up. In May of 2012, Julie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer however, with the help, love, prayers and determination of friends, family and the specialists at the Cancer Centers of America in Phoenix, Arizona Julie was able to “kick cancers butt!” in January of 2013.
She fought a long hard battle throughout these past couple years. However, procedure after procedure, medication after medication, Julie had major organ failure followed by extreme dehydration and eventually the fight had ended. Family gathered April 2, 2014 to spend their last loving words with Julie as she laid in ICU at Grossmont Hospital. Because Julie was such a beautiful soul, the family deemed it necessary to celebrate the individual she truly was. For we are not saddened because we lost her but give her great respect for the courage that she found throughout her last days. Julie is survived by her faithful husband, Daniel Utt, her two daughters Jalina Rayos and Alana Anorma, her mother Melicia Eugenio, her brothers and sister; Johnny Jr., Jeannie, Romeo and Robert and lastly, her pride and joy grandson, Kyle Rayos.
Life was never dull with Julie around because for her it was always about Living Well, Laughing Often and Loving Much. We all are extremely blessed to have had Julie in our lives.
