

Robert Henry Workman, formerly of Bluefield, WV, was born March 25, 1926, in Pocahontas, Virginia. He passed away at Sharp Memorial Hospital on January 8, 2012. Preceded in death by parents Ernest and Mary Workman of Virginia and only brother Harold Workman of Phoenix, AZ.
Robert served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He served on LCI ships that delivered troops to Normandy. He received several medals while in service. He married Nancy Sayers on April 9, 1947. They were happily married for 58 years prior to her death in February 2004.
Remaining to cherish his loving memory are his two children Bradley Kent Workman (Cindy) of Lakenheath Village England, Robin Workman Sosa (Frank "Rusty") of Spring Valley, CA, four grandchildren Erin Price, Richmond, VA, Robert Price, Lance Sosa, and Kelsey Shaver all of San Diego, and one great-grandson Isaac. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster after 35 years service. While working for the Post Office, he was very active in the community and church. He was Cubmaster at Trinity United Methodist Church, Class Treasurer, Officer in the Archery Club and Member of the Elks Club. He also retired from Dominion Bank in Roanoke, VA.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m. at Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary, 7387 Broadway, Lemon Grove 91945, to honor his life. A short military ceremony will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Pt. Loma, San Diego, CA, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 2:30 p.m. for entombment. He was the most wonderful father, grandfather, husband and human being. He loved his family and his best friend and protector "Rickey." He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, please give to any organization that would assist armed services members and their families.
