

Charles was a resident of Lenoir, North Carolina. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. He truly enjoyed working on his farm with his cattle and chickens.
He pursued his education at Western Piedmont Community College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. His career was marked by dedicated service, having retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years. Following his military career, he worked as a case worker for juvenile offenders at the Western Correctional Institute and served for 30 years there before he retired for the second time.
A service to honor Charles will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Garden in Lenoir and will be private.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 12:45 pm until 1:45 pm at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Virginia Summers Cottle of the home, three daughters: Debra A. Dickman and husband Dennis of Winter Springs, FL, Lisa J. Barber, and husband Ted of Lake Mary, FL, Nancy E. Cottle of Asheville, two brothers; Bernard Cottle of Charleston, WV and John Cottle and wife Shirley of Mocksville, NC along with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
