Charlotte was born on January 13, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late Roger Richard Turnmire and Grace McCall Turnmire. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by one sister, Jean Haskins; two brothers – Richard Turnmire and Bill Turnmire and her beloved grandson, Erik Warren Soots.
Charlotte graduated from Gamewell High School in 1951. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She attended Heritage Pentecostal Church in Whitnel prior to her transition to Shaire Center. She was a Godly woman who focused on helping people and was very active in church frequently teaching sunday school classes. Charlotte was a dedicated volunteer at the Storehouse Food Ministry in Lenoir. She was an excellent cook and looked for any opportunity to give people one of her delicious desserts.
Charlotte worked as a sales associate at A & P Grocery store and Roses in Lenoir. She began her sewing career at Shadowline in Morganton and then Crestline (Corson) Furniture in Valdese. Upon retirerment, she worked part-time at Shields of Lenoir.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loyal and faithful husband of nearly 70 years, Robert Lee Powell who was by her side daily until late evening at Shaire Center; one son, Jimmy Lee Powell and wife, Janet of Lenoir and their daughter, Andrea Hambright and husband, David of Hickory; one daughter, Sharon Powell Soots and husband, Ray of Granite Falls; one grandaughter – Angel Price and husband, Brian of Lenoir; two grandsons – Barry Soots and wife, Esther of Jacksonville, Florida and Jeff Soots and wife, Kellie of Charlotte; five great-grandchildren – Kristy Parker, Megan Soots, Lauren Price, Chris Price and Brittany Price and three great-great grandchildren – Charlotte Price and Jaiden and Kaileb Blow. She had numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A funeral service to honor Charlotte will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Smith officiating. A private family burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.
Charlotte's family members will be serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
Mrs. Powell's family would like to convey their utmost gratitude to Shaire Nursing Center and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care staff who took such amazing care of Charlotte and showed her such genuine love.
