

Mr. Helton was born in Caldwell County to the late Luther Helton and Nellie Gibson Helton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Carswell Helton; step-mother, Ruth Smith Helton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helton; sisters, Goldie Piercy Ward, Dorothy Duncan and Marlene Helton and a brother-in-law, Roger Clark.
Mr. Helton was an avid golfer and was a member of Quaker Meadows and Lenoir Golf Course. He was a member of Hartland Missionary Methodist Church. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children, Diana Burch and husband Paul of Morganton, Karen McNeil and husband Charles of Morganton, Clyde Michael Helton and wife Donna of Morganton, Brent Helton of Morganton, Cindy Powell and husband Michael of Lenoir and Stephanie Winkler and husband Todd of Hudson; his brothers, Reverend Joe Helton and wife Celine, and Reverend Bennett Helton and wife Gaye; his sisters, Linda Clark and Carolyn Joplin and husband Reverend Howard Joplin; eight grandchildren, Rodney, Chuck, Nick, Brent Lee, Wendy, Nathan, Miranda and Sydney and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Nathan Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The family will be gathering at the home of Brent Helton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Burch, Nicholas McNeil, Chuck McNeil, Brent Lee Helton, Nathan Sparks and Paul Burch.
