Dan was the most loving and devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; sister, Paula; children, Dionne (Terry), Dyan, Derek (Maria), Dani (Logan), Erin, and Allison; and grandchildren, Carmen, Jordyn, Ryan, Hope, Gina, Preston, Cary, Berkley, Destiny, Bradley, and Christian.
In his hometown of Eaton, Ohio, Dan excelled as a child playing baseball (pitcher and short stop), sang in the All-Ohio Youth Choir and participated in State Golf Tournaments. After graduating Eaton High School with the class of 1970, he proudly served his country in the United States Airforce. On October 29, 1983, Dan married the love of his life, Sheila. Dan could never pass up anything “Wildcat Blue” being an Alumni of the University of Kentucky and even naming the girl’s little league basketball team that he coached, the “Wildcats”.
Before finding his forever home in Morganton, NC, Dan worked for Kentucky Power, Dayton Power and Light in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and the Electric Department for the City of Kinston, NC. Dan was a distinguished member of the community, working as the Electric Director for the City of Morganton for 14 years, receiving a number of awards for his contributions to the City of Morganton and to Electricities, where he served on the Board of Directors for North Carolina. Even after his retirement, Dan continued to be a part of the City of Morganton’s family, consulting on electric issues and continued to serve on the Rate Committee and the Power Agency Board of Directors as a representative of the City of Morganton. Dan also served on the Parish Councils at Calvary Lutheran Church in Morganton and later at St Stephens Lutheran Church in Lenoir.
His passion for travelling should not go unnoticed as his life was full of trips around the world with the love of his life of over 40 years, Sheila, and together they touched the hearts of all they met. He was honest to a fault and had the presence, charisma, and integrity that demanded the attention of those around him. Dan was truly a great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, that loves him dearly. His ability to be selfless and to support others will leave an unfillable gap in all of the hearts he touched.
