David Gordon Porter

Mr. Porter was born in Greenville, SC to the late C. W. “Soup” Porter and Bert McCoy Porter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Erickson Porter, and long time companion Barbara Brailey.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corp, retired Superintendent of the Caldwell County School System and past president of the Lenoir Rotary Club.

Survivors include his son, David G. Porter III of Matthews, NC; daughters, Charlotte Mary Porter of Forest Hills, NY and Anne Porter Wilfong of Boulder CO.; and two grandchildren, David G. Porter, IV and William Erickson Porter

A graveside service will be held at Belleview Cemetery on Monday, October 11, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Fred Barnes officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Pendry’s Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Porter family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
