Mr. Smith was born April 27, 1936 in Caldwell County to the late Edward Smith and Viola Price Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Duncan and also an infant sister.
David was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was a product engineer for Bernhardt Furniture. He enjoyed traveling and his favorite trip was to Alaska, the place he most wanted to go to again. David was very talented in woodworking, he made many things including a cradle that he made for his grandchildren when they were born.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Hattie Roberts Smith of the home, sons; Daniel Smith and wife Krystal of Lenoir, Jason Smith and spouse Fletcher of Knoxville, TN, and grandchildren; Jacob and Lexi Smith of Lenoir.
A funeral service to honor Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Whitnel First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hedgecock officiating.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Carol Hedrick, Bruce Roberts, Clay Wilson, Daniel Smith, Austin Fox and Don Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Smith and Jacob Smith.
