

Born April 29, 1949 in Caldwell County, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Henry Doffis and Addie Mae Gilbert Barnes. She was a member of the Refuge Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Everett Barnes, Ray Barnes, Roy Barnes, and Jimmy Barnes; and one sister, Hazel Barnes.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Clint Darold Oakes; her children, Tina South, husband Don, Eva Perry, husband Greg, both of Lenoir and David Oakes, wife Regina, of Boomer; her grandchildren, Jon-Boy Kirby, wife April, Kristen Oakes, Matthew Perry, Dustin Eller, wife Ashley, D.J. Harding, wife Sarah; one great grandchild, Colt Harding; three sisters, Rita Roberts, husband David, Gracie Holmes, husband John, and Faye Harrison, husband Danny; six brothers, Larry Barnes, Frank Barnes, wife Reba, Ronnie Barnes, wife Kathy, Arnold Barnes, wife Jackie, Stanley Barnes, wife Leona, and Paul Barnes, wife Linda; she is also survived by numerous other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Oakes will be held on Monday, June 16 in the Chapel of Pendry’s Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Pastor Daniel Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be D.J. Harding, Dustin Eller, Jon- Boy Kirby, Raymond Lovins, Matthew Perry and Shane Phillips.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
