

Geneva Cansas Holbrook Ward, 72 of Hickory, formerly of Lenoir passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 at her son’s residence. Geneva resided there with her son Jeff and daughter-in-law Teresa along with her companion of eleven years George B. Moore.
Ms. Ward was born in Virginia to the late Bill Holbrook and Lizzy Mae Davis Holbrook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bynum R. Ward and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her companion of eleven years George B. Moore; a son, Bynum Jeffrey Ward and wife Teresa Ward of Hickory; six daughters, Joanne Ward Stafford of Lenoir, Judy Ward Burns and husband Randy of Sawmills, Kay Ward Burns and husband Bruce of Patterson; Joyce Ward Proffitt and husband Jerold of Hickory, Renee Ward Harrison and husband Robert of Sawmills, Hope Ward Whisnant and husband David of Lenoir;
four brothers, Fred, Alan, Sammy and Luther Holbrook all of Virginia; two sisters, Dorothy Holbrook Thomas and Mary Holbrook Collins both of Virginia; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Reverend Charles Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gregory Kosar, David Whisnant, Jeffrey Setzer, Robert Harrison, Keith Burns, and Jessie Waddell.
