

Mrs. Shoemake was born in Caldwell County to the late Clarence Watson and Gladys Cozort Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Carl Shoemake; a brother Richard Watson and two sisters, Alene Walker and Arlene Cikanek.
She was a former employee of Broyhill Furniture Industries and Blue Bell. She was a member of Indian Hills Baptist Church and she had such love for not only her family but her church family. Her passion was traveling and she had traveled to all 50 states. Miladeen’s most heartfelt passion was her sewing. She was a clothing designer specializing in so many varieties of designing clothes from wedding dresses, prom dresses, pageant dresses to so much more. Miladeen touched so many people’s lives with her customized sewing and words could never express how she loved it. She also had a special gift from God that she could always remember her entire families birthdays and ages. She will be missed by all her family and all that she has touched their lives in some way thru her special qualities.
Survivors include her sons, Alan D. “Coke” Canter and Douglas Canter, both of Lenoir; daughters, Darlene Clark and husband Rick of Lenoir, Donna McCall and husband Tommy of Hudson and Sandra “Sam” Canter Millwood of Lincolnton; step-daughters, Debbie Porter of Hudson and Teresa Lambert and husband Shane of Lenoir; brothers, Edward Watson and wife Eunice of Lenoir, Barry Watson and wife Patty of Mtn. City Tennessee and Wallace Watson of Lenoir; sisters, Mary Estes and husband Henry of Lenoir, Betty Canter of Hickory, Reba Watson of Lenoir and Lana Roland of Granite Falls. She loved her 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren with 1 on the way and 2 great-great grandchildren with 1 on the way. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved so much.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Bryan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Funeral Home Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
