Mrs. Irene Merita Smithey Summerow, 89 of Lenoir, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Gateway Nursing and Rehabilitation in Lenoir.

She was born on June 10, 1929 in Wilkes County to the late Willey Bruce and Nora Eller Smithey.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Summerow; one brother and four sisters.

Mrs. Summerow is survived by her daughters, Margaret Smithey, Violet Smithey, and Brenda Marada, all of Lenoir; and one sister, Hazel South of Lenoir.

A graveside service honoring Mrs. Summerow’s life will be held on Friday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Edyth Potter Pruitt.
