Mr. Miller was born in Watauga County on September 23, 1924 to the late Monroe Cottrell and Stella Mae White Miller. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ruth May Miller; brother, Howard Miller; and sisters, Georgia Hayes and Wilma Greene.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Brenda Deitz and husband Gary of Lenoir and Beverly Henderson and husband David of Greensboro; grandsons, Bradley L. Bodenhamer of Winston-Salem and Philip Stephen Deitz of Lenoir; great-grandsons, Braiden Paul Bodenhamer and Trevan Dempsey Bodenhamer; brothers, Bill Miller and Lewis Miller, both of Boone, and Kermit Miller of Hudson; and sisters, Virginia Yates and Rena Goodman, both of Boone.
A funeral service honoring Mr. Miller’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2019 at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Carl Bowles officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Military honors will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 6 of Hudson.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to First Christian Church of Lenoir or Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
