

He was born on February 25, 1930 in Lenoir, North Carolina to the late Lynwood Elisha Corpening and Martha Elizabeth Crump. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers; M. Mason Corpening and John K. Corpening.
Mr. Corpening is survived by a sister; Mary Ellen Corpening of Lenoir, NC, three nephews; M. Kelly Corpening and wife Kathy of Lenoir, NC, Rob Corpening of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kelly D. Corpening also of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by a niece; Aleesa Talmadge and husband Tracy of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, Mr. Corpening is survived by 3 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews.
James was a member of Miller Hill Baptist Church and worked in furniture for many years.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Pendry’s Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Walsh officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Pendry’s Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert “Dusty” Crump, Tony Graves, Johnny “Space” Crump, Edward Crump, Hunter “Pedro” Crump and Thomas Crump. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Miller Hill Baptist Church Brotherhood.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Miller Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1230 Virginia Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
