

Mr. Steele was born in Caldwell County to the late Nevada Dula Steele and James Henry Steele, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy and Billy Steele and a sister, Edna Steele Barlowe; his first wife, Nancy Everhart Steele, the mother of James and Rebecca.
He worked as a sewing machine mechanic in the clothing industry for many years and for the past 15 years he worked part time for Griffin Security. He was a member of North Cross Church and in his early years attended Piney Grove.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Alice Taylor Steele of home; his son, James Edward Steele and wife Kelly of Lenoir; his daughter, Rebecca Steele of Raleigh; his step children, Lee Burleson and Sherry Burleson, both of Lenoir; three grandchildren, Brooke Steele of Lenoir, Chandler Steele of Lenoir and Landon Mathew Crowe of Maiden; a sisters-in-law Joyce Maki of Lenoir, and Jean Taylor-Todd, of Newland and Ruth Coffey of Gamewell; a brother-in-law Gary Taylor and wife Kathy of Newland.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at North Cross Church with Reverend Charlie Crump officiating. The family will receive friends Friday at the church from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service.
