Jean Barnwell Barrier, age 86, of Lenoir, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Jean was born the daughter of the late Theodore Franklin Barnwell and Mary Jo Baker Barnwell on February 22, 1932 in Burke County.
Jean was a member of North Catawba Baptist Church where she taught in the children’s department. She enjoyed making crafts, needle point, sewing, cross stitch, and beaded calendars. Jean was retired after many years in the banking industry, having served at the Bank of Lenoir and First Union National Bank.
Along with Jean’s parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Gene C. Barrier; a sister, Mildred Nichols; two brothers-in-law, W.F. “Pete” Nichols and Russell White; a niece, Dawn White; father-in-law, W.C. Barrier; a mother-in-law, Margaret Barrier and a sister-in-law, Susie Barrier.
Those left behind to cherish Jean’s memory Include, two brothers, Wayne Barnwell (Margaret) and Roy Barnwell (Sandra); two sisters, Emily Craig (Bill) and Sue White; a brother-in-law, Jack Barrier (Barbara); and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at North Catawba Baptist Church with the Rev. Nicholas Wilson and Rev. Ned Webb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Barnwell, Alan Nichols, Stephen Triplett, Dwight McGlynn, Alan Coonse and Robert Phillips.
