He was born July 2, 1972, in Caldwell County to the late Kenneth Beard and Nancy Murphy Beard. Matthew worked passionately serving libraries in the communities of Caldwell, Washington, and Rockingham counties in various roles. He provided patrons of these libraires with more than just his knowledge of great novels. He was most proud of the staff he led in Rockingham County. His passion for travel, his knowledge of “great” music, and his enthusiasm for North Carolina sport teams will always be remembered.
He is survived by two brothers Dr. Kenneth Christopher Beard and wife Dr. Sandra Beard of Lawrence Kansas, Ret. COL. Jonathan Daniel Beard and wife Maria Gabriella of Lenoir; two sisters Dr. Susan Beard Wise and husband Brent of Weaverville, NC, and Celia Beard Hodges and husband Gregory of Mt. Airy, NC. Being an uncle to his seven nieces and nephews brought Matthew constant joy and pride. Cody (Stacey) and Lauren Hodges, Benjamin, Lucas and Jacob Wise, Lenora and Leanna Beard. The special memories Matthew created with his cousin Richard Poarch, and best friend Doug Davis will never be forgotten. There was no greater gift to Matthew than family.
