Melvin Gray

Mr. Gray was born in Lenoir County, NC to the late Jessie James Gray and Ester Melvin Gray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Louise Cannon Gray; a brother, Warren Gray and sisters, Cathrine Vinson and Harriett Braswell. He was retired from Sherrill’s Furniture and a proud veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jeff Gray and wife Meldonna of Claremont and Teddy Gray of the home; his daughter , Jennifer Moore and husband Keith of Lenoir, his grandchildren, Erica Moore and fiancé’ Matthew Tucker of Cullman Alabama, Kendele Moore of Apex, NC, Alex and Matt Gray of Claremont and Sonya Townsend of Hickory; great grandchildren, Beth Shaw and Michael Ward and a great, great grandchild; brothers, Donald Gray of Granite Falls and Milton Gray of New Jersey and a sister, Marion Hinson of Goldsboro, NC.

A graveside service will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Reverend Glenn Walker officiating.

Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and Caldwell County Honor Guard.

Family will hold open hours at the home of Keith and Jennifer Moore at 1345 Cottage Grove Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Serving as pallbearers will be Teddy Gray, Jeff Gray, Matt Gray, Alex Gray, Donald Gray and Ronald Gray.

The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard, P O Box 702, Hudson, NC 28638 or to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1787 Cajah Mountain Road, Hudson, NC 28638.
