Myrtle Jean Vannoy Winkler

Mrs. Winkler was born in Ashe County to the late Jessie C. Vannoy and Minnie Beng Vannoy. She was retired from the furniture industry, a homemaker, gardener, farmer, lifetime member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church and a member of the DAV Women’s Auxiliary. She was a loving mother, a woman of deep faith who readily sacrificed for her family, friends and her community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil Winkler; her son-in-law, Charles Perry Turnipseed II; three sisters, and three brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Winkler and wife Jo of Fort Mill, SC, Dorman Winkler and wife Dr. Martha Rhyne-Winkler of Granite Falls, NC, and Douglas Winkler of Kirkland, WA.; her daughter, Norma Turnipseed of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Frances Vannoy Moore of Hudson, NC; her grandchildren, Charles Perry Turnipseed III and wife Cherise of Atlanta, GA, Warren Virgil Turnipseed and wife Crystal of Charlotte, NC, Cyndi Winkler Clowney and husband Michael of Fort Mill, SC, Holly Winkler Gaskins and husband Dean of Fort Mill, SC, Matthew Douglas Winkler of Kirkland, WA, and Jessica Kristen Winkler of Kirkland, WA; great grandchildren, Charles Perry Turnipseed IV, Katherine Elizabeth Turnipseed, Emily Paige Gaskins, Avery Carolina Clowney, and Shaw David Clowney.

A funeral service will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Associate Pastor Randy McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
