

Mr. Hawkins was born April 13, 1925 in Wilkes County to the late Benjamin Luther Hawkins and Hettie Sanders Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II, and he fought during at the Battle of Iwo Jima, and served on the USS Highlands, an Attack Transport Vessel. Mr. Hawkins loved his family with all his heart; he enjoyed gardening and just being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Marjorie Beard Hawkins, a brother; Perry Hawkins, two sisters; Violet Hawkins, Naomi Beane and a great grandson; Ethan Marsh.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his son; Wayne "Tiny” Hawkins of Lenoir, two daughters; Phyllis Hawkins Good and husband Henry of Lenoir, Linda Hawkins Travis and husband Terry of Conover, two brothers; Hurley Hawkins of Hudson, Grady Hawkins of Lenoir, five sisters; Eloise Bolick of Connelly Springs, Vernice Whisnant of Rutherford College, Zelma Coffey of Lenoir, Dean Annas of Lenoir and Novella Benfield of Lenoir. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren; Kelly Travis, Krista Travis White both of Conover, Ashley Good Llamas of Raleigh, and great grandchildren; Savannah Travis of Lenoir, Chloe White of Conover, Sawyer Starnes of Conover and Amelia Llamas of Raleigh.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:30 am with Reverend Dale Payne and Pastor Doug Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Garden in Lenoir. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:30 am, prior to the service at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
