Mr. Thurman Paul Staton, age 84, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at his home. Thurman was born on October 15, 1940, in McDowell County, NC to the late Thurman Jefferson Staton and the late Pauline Roland Staton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Travis James Staton, a granddaughter Victoria Taylor Staton, two brothers Danny and Donny Staton and a sister Thelma Russell.
Thurman was a proud veteran of the United States Army, a deacon of Hartland Baptist Church and served on the Gamewell Fire Department where he was on the Board of Directors. He was the President of Gamewell Optimist Club and a member of the Caldwell County Honor Guard for 11 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 59 years, Doris Alma Ollis Staton of the home, his sons, Todd Staton, Michael Staton and wife Cindy, Ted Staton, all of Lenoir, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, his brother Harold Dean Staton, and his sisters Judy Murphy and Ann Sweatt.
A Graveside service will be held to honor Thurman on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:30 am at Woodlawn Memorial Garden in Lenoir with Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Staton, Anthony Staton, Denny Walsh, Darren Jacobs, Dillon Moses and Christian Walker.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
