Vergie Mary Cloer Hood

Mrs. Hood was born in Caldwell County on March 25, 1927 to the late Tallie and Lula Belle Kirby Cloer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murl D. Hood, one brother, Dock Cloer, and three sisters, Margaret Odem, Bernice (Pune) Kirby and Wilma Grant.

Vergie loved to travel and going out to eat with her many friends, with whom she loved visiting. She was full of love and wanted to share that love with everyone. Her dearest friends, Odell and Laura Watson of Granite Falls, NC took her to breakfast every morning and helped with her care. She was blessed with wonderful neighbors and friends.

She is survived by niece and caregivers, Vickie Maltba and husband Lane of Hudson, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, NC for the wonderful care they gave to Vergie. Also, another “Thank You “ to Nan Fitts and Marlene Buckner for their help in caring for Vergie.

Funeral services for Vergie will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at Pendry’s Chapel at 4:00 pm with Reverend Josh Benge officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, where she was a member.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Holman, James Fitts, Blake Williams, Mike Triplett, Robert Smith, and Ralph Bryant.
