Walter Andy Soots

Born in Wilkes County, he was the son of the late Bill Soots and Ollie Baldwin Soots.

Mr. Soots served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from Bernhardt Furniture Industries after 45 years of service. He was a member of South Lenoir Church of God and sang in the church choir. He also loved gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Annie Sumpter Soots of the home; son, Michael Walter Soots and wife Pam of Lenoir; daughters, Catherine Bowman and husband Charles of Bethlehem, and Susan Babb and husband Charles of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Chad Moore and wife April, Alisa Carlton, Preston Babb, Hunter Soots, Kristin Tyler and husband Ryan, Nick Bowman, Chad Wendelborg and wife Amy; and six great-grandchildren, Sam, Khristian, Bella Mae, Bailey, Bethany, and Natalie. He is also survived by his brothers, Bradley Soots, Ray Soots, Charles Soots, Harold Soots, and A.V. Soots; and sisters, Maggie Gragg and Katrina Pitts. He is further survived by his canine companion, Sophie.

Services honoring Mr. Soots will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at South Lenoir Church of God with the Reverend Kenneth Hensley and Reverend Howard Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Moore, Preston Babb, Casey Moore, Nick Bowman, Ryan Tyler, and Rick Bowman.
