
Mr. Lackey was born in Henrico County, VA to the late James Paul Lackey and Nannie Hylton Lackey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James McCray Lackey, Hylton Hartley Lackey and Earl Maynard Lackey; sisters, Pauline Lackey Brown, Katheline Lackey Turman, Irene Lackey Manor and Elsie Lackey Trent; and a grandson, Adam Collins Lackey.
He worked for many years in the furniture business and was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Occupied Japan after WWII and in the Korean War. He was a member of the local VFW, volunteered at the Lenoir Soup Kitchen and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi. He loved gardening.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, David Steven Lackey and wife Mavis Collins Lackey, and Byron Keith Lackey and wife Kathryn Simone Lackey; his grandchildren, Jane Catherine Lackey, Ryan Miles Lackey and Brooke Ashleigh Lackey; his sisters, Evelyn Lackey White and Nancy Lackey Edelen; brothers-in-law Connie Turman and John Fenwick Edelen; his sisters-in-law Annie Mae Lackey and Benita Dickerson Lackey; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Pendry’s Chapel at 4:00 p.m. with Father Julio Dominguez officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 328 Woodsway Lane NW, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to the Lenoir Soup Kitchen, 1113 College Ave SW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
