

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by wife Earline Whitfield, a granddaughter, Sarah Beth Whitfield, and sister Ruth Scott and brothers Muriel, Jack, Jim, Grady, Jean .
Bill is survived by daughter Rhonda and Nub Cornebise of Levelland, Texas, son Joe and Patricia Whitfield of Cypress, Texas, Niece Neita and Bruce McGowan of Red Oak, Texas, seven Grandchildren; Matthew, Jeremy, John, Tori, Tyler, Brian and Katie, and two Great Grandchildren, DeSean and Abigail and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated high school at Samnorwood, Texas. Bill served in the US Marine Corp November 1942 – November 1945 with duty station being Midway Island. Bill graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Agricultural Education having earned a second commission as a 2nd Lt in the US Air Force for his time in the ROTC program. He married Earline Pundt in Lipscomb County on November 22, 1951.
Bill taught Science, Vocational Agriculture and served as a basketball coach for 1 year at Northside, Vernon Texas. He then moved to Levelland and began a career of teaching Vocational Agriculture and Farm Power and Machinery from 1951-1984. In addition to the time in the classroom, Bill spent countless hours working with students for Stock Show, Judging teams and Mechanical team preparation for FFA related contest.
Bill was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Levelland, serving on several committee’s over the years and was involved with the Bus Ministry and worked as a Nursery worker.
Bill and Earline served as the Directors of the Nettie Grant Memorial Library of the First Baptist Church of Levelland from 1987 to 2010.
Bill loved to travel, visiting many places around the world including Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and all 50 of the United States.
Visitation will be held at the George C. Price Funeral Home Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Funeral Services for Mr. Whitfield will be at the First Baptist Church in Levelland, Texas on Friday, December 11 at 10:00 am with gravesite services immediately following at the City of Levelland Cemetery.
