Funeral services for Irene Carter, 91, of Sundown, Texas will be Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Sundown, Texas with Reverend Randy Winfrey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sundown Cemetery, Sundown, Texas under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland, Texas. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. She died on Tuesday, October 26, 2011 in Levelland, Texas.

She was born on April 10, 1920 in Thalia, Texas to Ulysses O. and Lydia Roena (Johnson) Barry. She moved to Sundown, Texas from Levelland, Texas. Irene married Harold Burie Carter on April 15, 1937 in Levelland, Texas.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Sundown, Texas. Irene was a longtime member of the Hockley County Home Demonstration Clubs and she was a Founding Member of the Hockley County Historical Society.

Survivors include four sons: Jimmy Carter and his wife, Teal of Lubbock, Texas, Benny Carter and his wife, Phyllis of Levelland, Texas, Travis Carter, and Billy Carter and his wife Judy all of Sundown, Texas, two daughters: Deloris Griffin and her husband, Bill of Kingsland, Texas; and Nancy Meadows and her husband Danny of Levelland, Texas and three sisters: Val Smith of Hobbs, New Mexico; Imogene Deaton of Denver City, Texas;

Mary Rose, Chickasha, Oklahoma: a brother: Gene Barry of Sundown, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; forty great -grandchildren; seventeen great- great- grandchildren; and three great-great-great grandchildren.
