

Jimmy Leon Carter was born April 28, 1942 and went home to be with The Lord on February 19, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas after a long illness. Jim was preceded in death by his loving parents, Harold Burie Carter and Velma Irene Carter. He is survived by his loving wife Melba, or “Teal” as he nicknamed her; his children, Stacy Carter Lockard of Lubbock, and David (Sherrie) Dixon of Fate, Texas; granddaughters, Lauren Lockard and Logan (Travis) Bertrand of Lubbock; grandson, Chance Dixon of Fate; great-grandson, Ryder Lockard of Lubbock; brothers, Benny (Phyllis) Carter of Levelland, Travis Carter and Billy (Judy) Carter of Sundown; sisters, Nancy (Danny) Meadows of Levelland, and Dolores (Bill) Griffin of Kingsland; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and dear friends. Jimmy was raised on the family farm outside Sundown, but his love of cars and racing were his constant distraction from his early teens to a lifelong passion and career from drag racing to Nascar. He loved to share his wealth of knowledge, insight and guidance to any and all in the racing community and swap stories ‘til the wee hours. He is greatly missed and mourned. A visitation from 4-6PM will be held Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the George Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Monday, February 23, 2015.
