Alma B. Head

Born April 1, 1921, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Alma was the fourth of seven children of Mary Catherine Zimmerman Bowers (1887-1969) and John Thomas Bowers (1889-1939). When she was a preschooler, her family moved to Stoystown, Pennsylvania where some of her favorite times were spent in school and playing the piano. She also enjoyed spending time with family often, a passion that she carried throughout her life.

In her youth, Alma took violin lessons but the instrument was “too squeaky” and did not appeal to her. She then decided to play the piano and was successfully self-taught. She continued to play the piano throughout her lifetime, last playing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her 101st birthday celebration and then for friends during Christmas that same year.

At age 16 Alma graduated from high school as valedictorian of the graduating class that year. Not long after this she met her future husband, Calvin, with whom she had two daughters. She was married until his death in 1988.

Over the years Alma maintained a close relationship with her two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and was later blessed with great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, each of whom brought greater delight to her life. She also enjoyed the company of faithful friends who ran errands, played endless hours of games and with whom she shared her faith in Jesus Christ.

Alma leaves behind a large loving family to include daughters Mary Ann Jimerson (Ed/Eddie; dec.) and Billie Walsh (Ed), grandchildren: Joanne McDade (Tim), Carin McLean; dec (Bill; dec), P. Shawn Walsh (Paula), E.C. "Chuck" Jimerson, Jr. (Pam), Janet Walsh (Jimmy), nine great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, and a larger blended and extended family of great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:30 AM, at Rosedale Memorial Park, 3850 Richlieu Road, Bensalem, PA.
