Born and raised in Scranton, PA to Joseph and Mary (Regan) Ward, she was the youngest of their three daughters and graduated from St. Patrick High School. In 1950, Bernice moved with her mother to Ringoes, NJ, where she met her longtime friend Gloria (Drake) Wieman and would later meet the love of her life, Leo Foran, of Lambertville, NJ. The two met at the Hibernia Firehouse during a Bingo game when Leo returned from the Korean Conflict. They wed in 1961, moving to Yardley, PA thereafter and their beloved son Michael was born in 1963. In 1965, the family moved to Fairless Hills, PA, buying the home Bernice would live in for the next 56 years.
Bernice remained very active throughout her life, working as an assistant teacher at St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Fairless Hills, and later went to work for Pomeroy’s Department store. Later in life, Bernice was active in St. Frances Cabrini Parish’s Women’s Guild - Hospitality on Funerals – and as a poll worker with her friend Terry Rooney in Falls Township.
She and Leo took many bus trips over the years with the St. Joseph’s Seniors Club, memories she often still talked about. Active and independent right up until the end, Bernice took great pride in decorating her home for the holidays, caring for her orchids, and – for as long as she could – baking and cooking for her family and friends.
Remembered for her kind nature and warm spirit, Bernice had a canning ability to make friends wherever she went. She always enjoyed the company of others and looked forward to hearing from her nieces for their weekly phone calls. Her neighbors were family to her, and they all looked after one another. But her greatest joy was her only grandson, Ryan, whom she spent a lot of time with cooking, dining out, keeping up the yard and decorating the house for the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leo, and by her sisters, Jane (Ward) Sartor, and Miriam (Ward) Major. She will be dearly missed by her son, Michael and daughter-in-law Lisa (Jones) Foran of Levittown, PA, and grandson, Ryan, of Levittown, PA, as well as her countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 8:30 until 9:30 am at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, 325 South Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills, where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. The Rite of Committal will follow in Saint John the Evangelist Cemetery, Lambertville, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in Bernice's name may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
