He was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1934, moved to Feasterville, PA in 1974, and to the Highland Park section of Levittown, PA in 1976, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Mr. Morris received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Howard University in Washington, DC in 1958. He learned transistor technology at Howard, which he taught to students at New York University and The City College of New York, where he earned a Master's Degree in Theoretical Physics. He was later hired by the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a civilian electrical engineer, and after his department's operations were transferred to the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) in Warminster, PA he became a navigation systems engineer, where he and his team designed and troubleshooted gyroscopes for U.S. Navy nuclear submarines that patrolled the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and protected this country from attack by naval vessels from hostile foreign governments. His hard work and dedication allowed him to advance to higher positions, and at the time of his retirement he served as the Navigation Systems Manager at NADC, where he supervised a large department of highly skilled technicians and engineers.
His professional accomplishments were eclipsed by his deep faith, along with his personal traits and beliefs. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jersey City, NJ, then joined Bethlehem AME Church in Langhorne, PA, and the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Trenton, NJ. Mr. Morris was a devout Christian, a loyal church goer, and an active choir member. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Mittie Jean (Pryor) Morris, for over 60 years, and he raised two successful sons, Darryl, a hospital based pediatrician at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and David Jr., a medical liaison for Vein Clinics of North America. He was beloved by nearly everyone whose lives he touched, and his loss will be felt deeply by those who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown.
