Elizabeth Grace, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, surrounded by her family. She would absolutely insist we not mention her age—and we were wise enough to listen.
She shared many loving years with her longtime partner, Dr. Raphael J. DeHoratius, whose presence, support, and devotion meant a great deal to her.
She was the devoted mother of Jennifer Grace, married to Heather Lee; William; and Elizabeth Rumbaugh, married to Christopher. She was also a loving grandmother to Edwin (who preceded her in death), Billy, Rebecca, Nora, and Benjamin R., each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.
Aunt Bet fiercely loved her nieces and nephews and proudly claimed to have saved several of their lives - more than once - which we all know is absolutely true . . . mostly. She was also a staunch friend, who considered the cherished members of her chosen family as more brothers and sisters, than mere friends.
Born and raised in West Philadelphia, she grew up in Rambler Park, where she formed lifelong friendships and a deep connection to her community. She was a proud graduate of St. Hubert’s High School, after which she began a meaningful career in phlebotomy, work that reflected her steady hands, compassion, and care for others.
She later made her home in Parkwood, where she raised her children while continuing her education. Through determination and hard work, she earned her Nursing Degree from Abington Hospital, launching a distinguished career in nursing. She began in Cardiology and ultimately found her true calling in Rheumatology, where she cared deeply for patients living with chronic and complex conditions.
She was a founding member of the Rheumatology Nurses Society (RNS) and later served for many years on its Board, a role that reflected her leadership, expertise, and commitment to advancing the profession and supporting fellow nurses nationwide.
After retirement, she was finally able to indulge another passion—traveling—where she was able to embrace new places, cultures, and experiences with curiosity and joy.
She will be remembered for her strength, perseverance, and dedication to caring for others, as well as her deep love of family. Her legacy lives on through the patients she helped, the nurses she mentored, and the family she cherished above all else.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Rd, Levittown, PA. Following the viewing, a funeral service will take place starting at 12:00 pm.
