

Elma May Kerns Elma May Kerns of Hulmeville passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Chandler Hall. She was 89. Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Kerns was an original Levittown homeowner residing in the Upper Orchard section. Elma held various positions throughout the Neshaminy School District but mainly worked as a play ground aide at Herbert Hoover Elementary School before retiring in 2014 after 27 years. She was very dedicated to the school and truly loved working with the children. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Kerns was the beloved wife of the late Richard P. Kerns Sr. She was the loving mother of Elaine Smith of Hulmeville and Richard P. Kerns Jr. and his wife Barbara of Warwick, RI. She was the devoted grandmother of Debra (Scott) Whitaker, David (Gina) Smith, Daniel (Leslie) Smith, Darren (Janice) Smith, Jennifer (Roman) Mysak, Matthew Kerns and Justin (Tiffany) Kerns and the great grandmother of Joseph, Tyler, Bailey, Matthew, Sophia, Anna, Isabella, Alex, Alyssa, Cruz, Tate, Kylie, Aubrey, Kendyl and Hunter. She will also be missed by her sister Marion (Thomas) Schofield; sister-in-law Donna Pawling and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Irvin and Hannah Pawling; brother Irvin Pawling Jr. and son-in-law Gary Smith. The family would like to send a special thank you the the staff of Chandler Hall Hospice and Home Care for the loyal and dedicated care they gave to Elma. Family and friends may call Sunday from 7 until 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Herbert Hoover Elementary School PTO, 501 Trenton Road, Langhorne, PA 19047 or to a charity of the donors choice.
