Herbert W. Schoell Sr. of Bristol, PA passed away on Monday, April 4. He was 83 years old.
Originally born in Philadelphia PA until his family moved to Bristol Twp. where he remained a lifelong resident.
He was a self-employed businessman and worked as an excavator (Local 542) his entire life.
He was dedicated to serving his country and community. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (1957-1959), Bristol Twp. Fire Marshal (1972 &1975) and joined Newportville Fire Company in 1955, serving as their Chief for 20 years.
His accomplishments were many. He was a founding member of of the PA State Arson Association, was active in raising funds for both the Crozer-Chester and St. Agnes Burn Centers and has received numerous accommodations from local police departments. He belonged to the Keystone Fire Chiefs Association, Tin Can Sailors, FASP, along with many others.
The doors to his house were always open if you needed to laugh, cry or if you just needed a shoulder to lean on.
His hobbies included reading books on history, working in the backyard, and listening to country music. His favorite artists were Brooks and Dunn, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. But most of all, it was being a family man that brought him the most joy.
Son of the late John and Mildred Schoell, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Freer, Delores Mallon, and brother John Schoell. He was a loving brother to his two siblings, Sandra Hughes and Frank (Butch) Schoell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Christina (Charlton), his two sons, Herbert Jr. (Nancy), Steven (Christine) and one daughter, Cheryl. He was a proud Pop Pop to 4 grandchildren, Christina McPherson (nee Schoell) (Christopher), Jessica, Steven and Daniel and two great grandchildren, Gracelyn and Hunter.
He will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews along with numerous family friends.
Services will be private.
